2011 Touareg

The all new 2011 Touareg has managed to decrease it’s weight by 10% without getting smaller. It is 460 pounds lighter than the similarly sized 2010 model and, for the first time, includes a hybrid version. The Touareg hybrid will be VW’s first mass produced gas-electric drive vehicle when it starts rolling off the line next month.  The SUV uses the VW Group’s latest supercharged and direct injected 3.0-liter V6. The engine is combined with an electric motor sandwiched between the flywheel and eight-speed automatic transmission and a nickel metal hydride battery pack under the rear cargo floor. An eight-speed automatic will be standard in all 2011 Touaregs. Thanks to the lower weight, improved aerodynamics and upgraded powertrains, the fuel efficiency of the Touareg improves by almost 20 percent! The hybrid is rated at a combined 28.6 miles per gallon. The 3.0-liter TDI V6 jumps from 25.3 mpg to 31.8 mpg.
